Ladakh, land of high passes.
The task assigned was to create a travel postcard for any place in the world. I chose Ladakh, a union territory in India. I have personally traveled there and was intrigued by its beauty.
TASK
SOLUTION
I wanted to experiment and make a handmade poster and logo for the postcard instead of a digital one. Ladakh exudes a sense of calm. It’s a world of its own, still protected from exploitation. There is a certain sense of peace within it.
The poster is made of cut paper, and I experimented with colour, overlapping and hand drawn type to capture the rugged and untouched natural beauty of the region.

DELIVERABLES
PROCESS
I had taken a road trip through Ladakh and have a lot of photographs showcasing its unique landscape. I made physical mood boards with these photographs to understand the culture and form a color scheme unique to Ladakh.
I sketches various structures in Ladakh to understand how they could best work with the hand drawn type. The logo is typographical; the silhouette makes it more rugged, just like the region. It’s bold, simple, and understated.
The Colour and overlapping of paper were essential for the poster. I wanted to maintain a sense of both calm and boldness. Buddhism is very prominent there, and you can often see monasteries and bright prayer flags shining brightly against the browns and greys of the dry desert. The colourful contrasts resonated with me, so I wanted to show that in a manner true to Ladakh.
