What’s a chair if you cannot sit on it?

TASK

The task was to come up with furniture store concept and design its identity and branding.

Casarte is a fine decor auction house and retailer known for representing upcoming furniture and home decor designers and pop-up curations at various spaces. It’s the collision of 2 worlds where inspired; one-of a- kind designs are available to the general public to admire and purchase. Casarte aims to provide heirloom pieces that are bold, dynamic yet understated, and blend within your home.

PROCESS

Casarte is the combination of the words Casa and Arte. Both words mean Home and Art in Italian. Italian furniture silhouettes are a huge inspiration for my logo and theme; they fit perfectly.

The name is striking and I wanted the viewers to speak it in their head when they look at it. I decided to have a type and symbol logo to achieve this.

I tried various typefaces and ultimately chose for Optic Sans, the Type used at eye doctor’s clinics. It is simple, elegant, but unique enough to be identified from anywhere. I then decided to design a logo that looked like a chair to capture what the brand is about. I started with more complex designs and played with the letters in the type but eventually did a simple logo that looks good on its own and with the type logo.
